Becoming Supernatural

Brief Summary

Becoming Supernatural argues that the true frontier of change is not “out there” but inside your nervous system, emotions, and consciousness. Your past isn’t destiny—it’s a program. That program is encoded in your thought–feeling loops, your brainwaves, your heart rhythm, and your body’s energy centers. When you learn to:

Shift out of high-stress survival states into calm, coherent brain and heart states

Generate elevated emotions like gratitude, love, and joy on purpose

Direct your attention and intention toward a specific future

Rehearse that future inwardly until your body feels it as real

…you literally rewire your brain and reshape your biochemistry. The old self (built on trauma, stress, and repetition) slowly dissolves, and a new self—aligned with health, creativity, and connection—takes its place. The external “miracles” (healing, extraordinary synchronicities, new opportunities) are simply the natural outcome of this internal realignment.

In Dispenza’s language, you “become supernatural” not by breaking the laws of nature, but by finally learning how they really work and cooperating with them.

About the Author

Dr. Joe Dispenza is a chiropractor, lecturer, and author whose work sits at the intersection of neuroscience, epigenetics, and meditation. He first became widely known through the documentary “What the Bleep Do We Know?!” and has since written several books, including Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and You Are the Placebo. Dispenza runs workshops and week-long retreats around the world where participants practice his meditations while their brainwaves, heart rhythms, and other physiological markers are measured. He uses these events to explore how internal states of consciousness can influence health, behavior, and subjective experience, particularly in cases of recovery from trauma and chronic disease .

Becoming Supernatural Book Summary Preview

Becoming Supernatural is Joe Dispenza’s playbook for radical inner change. He argues that we’re not fixed by our past, our genes, or our circumstances. Instead, our lives are shaped by repetitive patterns of thinking and feeling that train the brain and body to live in the same emotional reality day after day. When we learn to consciously interrupt those patterns, access deeper states of mind, and generate elevated emotions, we can change our biology, heal, and create a very different future.

Dispenza blends neuroscience, epigenetics, meditation, and ideas drawn from quantum physics and ancient spiritual traditions. His core claim: we are not just physical beings reacting to a material world—we are energetic, “quantum” beings whose thoughts and emotions interact with a field of possibilities. When our intention (thought) and our emotional energy (feeling) line up, what looks supernatural to others becomes our new normal.

He supports his ideas with case stories from his workshops: people who report remission from serious illnesses, recovery from trauma, and dramatic life changes after practicing his meditations consistently .

How Thought–Feeling Loops Create Your Personal Reality

Dispenza starts with a simple but powerful model: your personal reality (your life) is created by your personality (how you think, act, and feel). Most people think the same thoughts, perform the same behaviors, and feel the same emotions every day—so their life doesn’t change.

He describes a feedback loop:

  • You have a thought (based on past experiences).

  • That thought triggers the brain to release chemicals.

  • Those chemicals create emotions in the body.

  • Emotions get stored in memory.

  • Those emotionally charged memories filter how you interpret new experiences.

  • That filter influences your next thoughts, restarting the loop .

  • Over time, this loop becomes automatic. The body “memorizes” emotional states better than the conscious mind. Someone rejected in adolescence might unconsciously expect rejection in every friendship or relationship. Their brain scans for signs they’re not wanted, and their body feels anxious long before anything bad happens.

    Examples:

    • A person who was frequently criticized as a child might feel a tight chest, racing heart, and self-doubt every time their boss says, “Can we talk?” even when the topic is neutral.

    • Someone who experienced a painful breakup may relive it every night, replaying the scenes in detail. The brain fires the same neural patterns as during the actual event, and the body produces the same stress chemicals. To the body, the breakup never ended.

The stronger the original emotion (shock, humiliation, fear, grief), the deeper the memory groove. That’s why trauma is so sticky: high-intensity emotions produce long-lasting neural wiring and body chemistry .

How Stress And Survival Emotions Damage Health

In survival mode, the body is built to deal with short bursts of danger. But modern life often keeps people in a prolonged emergency state—worrying about money, relationships, health, or status. Dispenza calls emotions like fear, anger, aggression, shame, and guilt “survival emotions.”

    When those emotions are chronic:

    • Stress hormones stay elevated, weakening the immune system.

    • Digestion and repair processes are suppressed.

    • Heart rate and blood pressure increase.

    • Inflammation rises and tissues break down over time.

Dispenza connects this to the development or worsening of ...
