Need A Bedtime Routine That Works? Here's What To Think About

Posted on 8/18/2025, 3:03:19 PM

Are you in need of a bedtime routine? Even if you think the answer is no, it’s actually yes! We’ve written before about the things most people don’t realise about being adults, and we’ve got one more for you: even when you’re a grown up, you still need a regular bedtime!

A bedtime routine keeps you on the straight and narrow. It makes sure you always have a consistent amount of sleep to run off. And above all, it gives your body the same amount of time to rest and heal night by night.

But not everyone is going to benefit from the same bedtime routine structure. You need to come up with one that works for you. And to help you do that, we’ve listed a few tips below.

Don’t Tire Yourself Out with the Routine

You want to feel tired enough to go to bed, yes. You don’t want to then go through half an hour of pre-bedtime checks and tasks that you’re already too exhausted to do and will have you waking yourself up!

Keep your bedtime routine short and sweet. Or, do it half and half. Do things like shower and skincare 2 hours in advance, and then brush your teeth and put your PJs on 5 to 10 minutes before you crawl into bed.

You Need to Get Yourself into a Relaxed State

Relaxing sounds like the easiest thing in the world. But when you’re putting pressure on yourself to relax for bedtime, it becomes one of the hardest things to try.

So the first thing to accept is that getting into a relaxed state isn’t easy for everyone. Sometimes you need a bit of help with this kind of thing! And it’s OK to need that help; that’s where you can use thc gummies, massage techniques, and white noise machines.

Get yourself into that zen zone where you can both feel sleepy and prevent any outside disturbances from interrupting your lull into the dream world. It’ll really help with getting you into a proper routine.

Make Full Use of ‘No Disturbances’ Modes

Every phone and/or tablet has one. Make sure it’s been turned on when you’re ready to go to bed - and don’t wait until you’re actually in bed to turn it on either. You want ‘do not disturb’ to be toggled on at least 20 minutes in advance.

You don’t want any ‘sudden’ work messages coming through when you’re relaxing and getting ready for a good night’s sleep. And when it comes to friends and family, you also don’t want to get too excited to keep talking to loved ones either.

And if you’re worried you’ll miss something important, there are filters you can set that allow certain people to still contact you when this setting is switched on. Just be very mindful who you allow through the wall.

If you need a bedtime routine that actually works, use the tips above to craft the most effective one!
