3 Signs You're Not Happy In Your Career

Posted on 1/24/2026, 12:45:17 PM

If you’re struggling with your career at the moment, it could be true that you’re simply not happy. But, it’s important that you are able to identify it when you’re unhappy, and determine whether it’s just a short-term unhappiness or whether you’ve outgrown where you are.

The good news is that we’re here to help you identify this. Down below, we’re going to be taking a look at three of the signs that you’re not happy long-term in your career, so keep reading if you’re interested in finding out more.

You Wake Up Full Of Dread

If you find that you’re waking up full of dread every single morning that you go to work, and you can’t get rid of that sense of dread throughout the day until you get home, then this is a sure fire sign that something isn’t right. Nobody deserves to live like this, as we spend so much of our time working, and it’s not worth spending all of this time feeling down in the dumps.

Now, there is a difference between waking up full of dread because you’ve got a big meeting or presentation that day or in the coming days, and waking up full of dread simply because you don’t want to go to your job.

You’re Constantly Thinking About Other Careers

Next thing that we’re going to look at is the fact that you’re constantly thinking about other careers. If you were happy with your career, if you felt satisfied and suitably challenged in your current job, then you wouldn’t be constantly thinking about doing something else.

Now, the chances are that you have simply outgrown the career that you chose when you were younger, and you’re now more interested in doing something else, and that's okay. Follow your heart, and look into something that interests you. Perhaps you could look into environmental consulting jobs, jobs in healthcare, or whatever else you think you would enjoy, but just be prepared to complete more education and certifications.

You’re Bored At Work

Finally, it might be true that you’re simply bored at work. If you’re not being challenged in any way, or it feels as though you’re just living the same day over and over with no variety, this can cause you to lose all interest in your job. So, if you’re bored, and it doesn’t seem as though things are ever going to change, it might be time to consider trying out something new.

You can either go for a similar role at a new company, or a different role within the same company, or something else entirely. It depends on what you think will interest you, and what you want to do with your life going forward.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see three of the signs that you’re not happy with your career. You don’t have to feel stuck, you know? You can always make changes if this is what you want to do.
