About the Author

Miyamoto Musashi (1584–1645) was a legendary Japanese swordsman renowned for remaining undefeated in more than sixty duels. He developed a distinctive combat style known as Niten Ichi-ryū, which used both the long sword and the short sword simultaneously. A master strategist, artist, philosopher, and craftsman, Musashi spent his life traveling, training, and refining his understanding of martial discipline. Near the end of his life, he retired to a mountain cave and wrote The Book of Five Rings to preserve his teachings for future generations. Today he is celebrated as one of Japan’s greatest martial figures, and his work remains influential in modern martial arts, business strategy, leadership training, and personal development.
