Jenna Miscavige Hill grew up inside the Sea Org, the intensely dedicated staff branch of the Church of Scientology, and is the niece of David Miscavige, the Church's current leader. She left the organization in her early twenties after a childhood and young adulthood shaped almost entirely by its rules, labor demands, and surveillance practices. Since leaving, she has become a prominent voice among former Scientologists, cofounding the support website exscientologykids.com and speaking publicly through interviews, documentaries, and advocacy work aimed at exposing the Church's practices and supporting others who have left. Beyond Belief, published in 2013 and cowritten with Lisa Pulitzer, is her firsthand account of that entire journey, from childhood indoctrination to public advocacy.
