Anne Frank

About the author

Anne Frank (1929–1945) was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and fled to the Netherlands with her family to escape Nazi persecution. When the Nazis occupied the Netherlands in 1940, she was forced into hiding, where she began documenting her thoughts and experiences in her diary. Despite her tragic death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp at age 15, Anne’s writing immortalized her as one of history’s most poignant witnesses. Her diary, first published in 1947, has been translated into over 70 languages and continues to remind readers that even in humanity’s darkest hour, the light of hope can never be extinguished.
