About the Author

Alan Watts was a British born philosopher and writer who became one of the most influential popularizers of Eastern philosophy in the twentieth century West. Trained initially in Christian theology, he later devoted his career to interpreting Buddhist and Taoist ideas for a Western audience, writing more than twenty books along the way, including The Way of Zen and The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are. He was also a prolific lecturer, and recordings of his talks still circulate widely today through the organization that carries his name. Watts died in 1973, but The Wisdom of Insecurity remains one of his most read works, partly because its central question, how do you live well knowing nothing lasts, has never stopped being relevant.
